Millenium Simulation

·
ScienceSpaceTechnology

Someone indirectly asked about an image of the universe posted here recently so I looked a little further. Turns out it was the product of the Millenium Simulation: the largest n-body simulation to date, containing more than 10 billion particles and using a computer cluster of 512 processors over a period of 28 days. The simulation was run by the Virgo Consortium, an international collective of scientists dedicated to pushing the boundries of cosmological simulation.
