The Noisettes

Formed in 2003, the band consists of English blues-born guitarist Dan Smith, Zimbabwe-bred singer/bassist (and latent aspiring circus performer) Shingai Shoniwa and veteran rock drummer Jamie Morrison. Regarding Dan and Shingai, from the bio on their website:

They’d met that very day when Shingai decided to sit down next to the kooky weirdo in her music class and sing along with the cranky cool music he was playing on his guitar in the park and from vastly disparate beginnings, a love affair was begin. Requited musically, unrequited physically.

We had a dysfuntional love affair that never came to fruition,“ Dan explains, "I really fancied the shit out of her and that kept me seeing her when we were doing the band. It’s always been one of those weird Romeo and Juliet things where they never actually have each other and they both die.”

Shingai grins broadly. “It’s a cliff-hanger.”

While they’ve been touring extensively in the UK and US their first full length album, What’s the Time Mr. Wolf?, is just now being released: last February to the UK and this April 17th in the US. The track I’m including is “Scratch Your Name” – not the most interesting song on the album but probably the catchiest. I also really like “IWE” and “Don’t Give Up” but then, so does everybody. For those of you in NC they’ll be playing in Chapel Hill at Cat’s Cradle Sunday night though I think it might be sold out.
