This intricate column is made of 2,700 laser cut boards layered together. It’s designed using an algorithm that devises structures so complex no person could draft them by hand. Creator Michael Hansmeyer says, “I think this project gives us a glimpse of the unseen objects that await us if we as architects begin to think about designing not the object, but a process to generate objects.”
